Not long until the Rhumba Summer Nights Tour Bus makes it's next stop.... Hello seaside!!.... We Are Rhumba, We Love Arbroath!!
When going on holiday, Its always best to know a bit about the place that you plan to visit.... So Ronnie, Head of Summer Tours, has been talking intensively with ABTA (Arbroath is Best Tourist Association) and has put together this handy guide to help you get to know the town before you travel....
It is the biggest town in Angus, yes amigos it sure is! Fact.
Football: Arbroath FC v Bon Accord FC ended up 36-0. It's still a record!.... WTF happened to the mighty Bon Accord that night then? It was probably that famous chant* to be heard resounding around the terraces…. ‘na na na three hatchets in yir heid’!!! Arbroath FC…. the famous Red Lichtie’s…. gotta love them.
Arbroathians invented the waterbed, hot air stove, enamelled bath tubs and adhesive postage stamps, oh.... and the overhead valve engine. Clever bunch, I'm sure you agree? (If anyone actually knows what an overhead valve engine is? Please do let us know).
22,275 Rhumbateers live there, well at the last count.... That's quite a lot!
The Rhumba have already had 15 incredible events there. They were all highlights in our busy history (Thank goodness we wrote them all down or even we may not have known that).
KB, a founder member of Yogi's, an early night in our illustrious promotions career, still lives there, wouldn't you know? Big Ivan the Pieman hailed from these parts. Grant & Alison (original Rhumba crew) are now living in Houston (that is in Texas), but miss Arbroath every day. We also have the lovely Tracey Wyness, another original Rhumbateer. Gordon Marr is there too.... he names himself after a Star Wars character, Jango Fett, but that's ok? Better stop now, could be here all day. Anyway there are loads of Rhumba Legends from this lovely wee town.
Then there are our new Rhumba friends from these parts.... Scott Williams/Epic/Milk are on the case co-hosting this night with us. They are keeping Arbroath on the clubland map. And wee Jordan Wyness will be there too, along with half of Arbroath most likely.
So, now that you are fully acquainted with all things Abroathian.... It's on to the actual Tour News....
It's our first Summer Nights gig, so we thought we would have a bit of fun with this one. "To look forwards, sometimes you need to look backwards", as Mixmag pointed out last month....
So, Shut your eyes and Cast your mind back....
.... it is 1995, you are in Arbroath, it's The Rhumba and it's The Club for Life night.... Great memories, eh?
.... well, Fast forward my friends.... It is 2014 and You are again in Arbroath, it's The Rhumba and it's The Rhumba for Life night!!!
And coming to the seaside to play with their buckets and spades are (almost) the same DJs that played that memorable night close to 20 years ago!
Club for Life 1995... Jeremy Healy, Chris and James, Zammo, Gareth Sommerville.
Rhumba for Life 2014.... Jeremy Healy, James Bradley (of Chris & James), Michael Kilkie, Gareth Sommerville!!
And joining our Intrepid Rhumba Tourist Crew are our trusty Local Tour Guides.... Scott Williams, Billy Morris and Jordan Wyness....
We have recreated the original flyer, nearly as it was in 1995 to mark this fine occasion.... Nice wee holiday souvenir perhaps?.... Make it into a fridge magnet?
And the best news of all.... tickets are the same price as they were in 1995!! Don't say we aren't nice to you.
Same Rhumba madness, Same artwork, Same (almost) DJs, Same price!!
Right then ruffians and rapscallions.... it's time.... all aboard the fun bus to Arbroath.... the Rhumba is back in town!!
First stop on Friday 1st August is.... Obar & Coast, Arbroath.
Now let us all sing that other famous Arbroath chant*…. ‘Oh the ducks of the Keptie Pond, the ducks of the Keptie Pond, the ducks the ducks the duck the ducks, Oh the ducks of the Keptie Pond. Oh the gulls of the Arbroath Cliffs…...’ and so it goes on…. Catchy isn’t it?
