The Fox Cabaret presents Martin Rev, one half of the seminal electronic duo Suicide, making his first ever appearance in Vancouver. With a solo performance by Thomas Anselmi as well sets by Sarah Davachi and Richard Smith.
About Martin Rev / Suicide
Formed in 1971, from New York City and always with the avant-garde, Suicide made the sound of New York. They were part of that “pre-punk era” with all that bands from Max Kansas City and CBGB’s like the Velvet Underground, the New York Dolls, the Ramones, Blondie, the Dead Boys, and Richard Hell. Suicide released two groundbreaking albums in the late 70's, but were met with resistance and hostility throughout these early years, often causing riots during tours with The Clash and Elvis Costello. In 1980, both Vega and Rev began exploring their sound as solo artists, a process they have each continued throughout their storied careers. Today, they are venerated by any Techno-CowBoy which respects himself. Few bands had and still have such an impact on acts as diverse as OMD, Human League, Spiritualized, Orbital, Pulp, Nick Cave, Jesus & Mary Chain, Primal Scream, the Chemical Brothers.
About Thomas Anselmi
Thomas Anselmi has been a creative and caustic force in Vancouver music since the 80’s. His unmistakable flair for the theatric is the through line in a career that has seen him ruin Expo with his legendary punk band Slow; release three major label albums with alt-rock outfit Copyright; and lead an ensemble with Depeche Mode’s frontman and a Warhol Factory muse in MIRROR. Continuing the synthesizer-based approach of MIRROR, and performing under his own name for the first time, Anselmi’s evocative music is rooted equally in the spectacle of punk rock dive bars and Parisian cabarets.
