Award winning saxophonist and MC Soweto Kinch is one of the most exciting and versatile young musicians in both the British jazz and hip hop scenes. One of the few artists in either genre with a degree in Modern History from Oxford University he has amassed an impressive list of accolades and awards on both sides of the Atlantic. Tonight he begins a weekend of gigs and workshops at the festival with a preview of his new work Nonagram. Based around the nine-sided wheel (nonagon) it describes how concepts such as shifting time signatures, harmony and tonality give form to ideas that can’t be seen in the natural world.
