Scott Grooves [Modifiled Suede / Wild Oats]
Flooder

Detroit’s Scott Grooves is about connecting with people. He’s about expressing his own musical message and about speaking to souls, making them dance, feel and enjoy themselves. A producer and DJ who has been on this humble mission since the early nineties, Scott has produced countless gems as well as a landmark album, has worked with Roy Ayers, has released on Soma and KMS, and has always balanced man with machine; the organic with the synthetic.
Despite achieving so much, Scott is often overlooked, partly because his main aim is to please himself without exalting himself, and to do things his way, rather than kowtowing to any big trend, any need for stardom or any lust for the limelight. It means his work, both in the booth and studio, is as fresh and enthralling now as it ever was. Currently enjoying interactions with his audiences on a new level thanks to social media, Scott likes direct contact, down to earth situations and intimate settings. The places he plays he is as likely to visit as a patron as he is a DJ; grassroots clubs where he can form relationships with the promoters and punters who enjoy and respect what he does, and how he does it.
“People should know that booking me will not produce gigantic headlines,” he says with rare candour. ”I will never cause a solar eclipse to occur while on the decks, but I hope you will hear the musical journey.” As such Scott plays for as long as is possible so as to be able to best express himself. He is by no means a ‘turn up, play, get paid and leave’ kind of DJ: instead he likes to spend time to interact at a gigs and talk to the people who make him what he is. This most recent journey will culminate in more soulful, moody dance music and other dimensions of sound, most likely on his own expertly curated Natural Midi and Modified Suede outputs.
Scott, then, is here to do things properly and on his own terms: for that rare treat, we must be thankful.
