Party: Suming Rupi Live at Passing Clouds + Film Screening, Food & DJs!

On Thursday the 4th of August 2016, come and celebrate a night of folk music, indigenous culture and authentic food from Taiwan with Suming Rupi!

Suming is a singer-songwriter from Dulan, an Amis ethnic tribe in eastern Taiwan. He’s devoted in retrieving, preserving and promoting Amis traditional culture. This summer we have him flying from 6,000 miles away, touring from Glastonbury (UK), Japan, Riddu Riddu Festival (Norway), Berlin and finally to London.

‘Who’s Singing There' (2009) is a documentary on an indie rock band ‘Totem’ which was formed in 2002 by five young men, four of whom are from indigenous Taiwanese backgrounds. Their songs preserve traditional indigenous chants and melodies, as well showing influences from different genres of modern music. This is a story about young people leaving their homes - the tribal villages in Eastern Taiwan, bountiful of nature and ancient culture - to pursue their music careers.

The director, Lungnan Isak FANGAS, who is also from an indigenous background, uses his camera work to portrays this very unique life experience in a frank and honest narrative.
