Diverse musician Jerome Williams Jerome Williams will take listeners on a ride with his own style of roots and funk when he performs covers and originals at Deck Acoustics and he's bringing a friend this time to add even more funk.
Born in Melbourne before moving to the Northern Rivers in 2007, Jerome comes from a family of musicians. His mother has been in the industry as a singer and manager for many years and his father is a renowned drummer originally from the USA. His uncle was a touring and session drummer for over 30 years and most of his other family members have been involved in the industry on the production side for a long time. So it’s fair to say music is in his genes.
“I got my first guitar when I was 7 but didn’t really take it seriously till I was 15 when my mum gave me her 12 string Maton. Instead of the usual Christmas and birthday presents my mum got me every instrument she could find which only made my love of music more profound” Jerome says.
“I was pretty much self taught apart from some really cool players I have been lucky enough to jam and share ideas with over the years, including Jazz bass player Wayne Jones and guitarist Marc Mittag, who taught me the language of music and how to put the pieces together. From 15 onward I practised, bashed, listened, learned everything possible till my fingers bled and my brain was full.”
Jerome’s style has been significantly moulded by artists such as John Butler, Xavier Rudd, Tuck and Patti, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Michael Franti, Victor Wooten, Guthrie Govan with major influences from John Pettrucci, Tool, Creed, Rage Against The Machine, Evanescence, Sevendust and Tesseract.
